Assateague Island Eco-Tour
This is our most popular tour! Starting at the Assateague Island National Seashore visitor's center, we'll ride along the scenic bike trail stopping first atop the bridge to Assateague (our only hill) with expansive views of the entire barrier island and the Ocean City skyline in the distance. From here we will continue down the bike trail and along the marshes as we ride first through the state-owned portion of the Assateague bike trail and then into the National Park. Along this trail, which is separated from the road, your guide will point out many of the plants and animals that we pass. As we pause to get photos of the ponies you'll hear several theories as to how they ended up wild on Assateague. After entering the National Park we'll ride to the bay to see , up-close, the productive salt marsh environment. Next we'll stop at the old life-saving station. And just before leaving the park, we'll take a short walk to the undisturbed beach to see how this entire coast would look had it not been developed. $50 per person ($45 w/coupon) $40 kids aged 10-11 ($35 w/coupon). Minimum age 10 years old.
Assawoman Wildlife Eco-tour
The Assawoman Wildlife area is a hidden gem! This tour takes you to the wooded pinelands on the west side of Little Assowoman Bay. Because of its location it is a haven for birds and wildlife. Our first stop will actually be outside of the park, at a small family cemetery, where we will learn a little bit about the interesting human history of this area. Once inside the park, our route will take us to several landings overlooking the bay, the first of which is just across the water from a nesting pair of bald eagles! At the next landing we'll learn about crabbing and see the enduring work of the CCC. The highlight of this tour is the observation tower where, if you don't mind heights and a short climb, you'll have a great view of fresh and saltwater ponds. These ponds are magnets for all types of water fowl, depending on the time of year. $45 per person ($40 w/coupon) $35 kids aged 10-11 ($30 w/coupon). Minimum age 10 years old.
